Vanessa Robert, a kindergarten teacher at Canton Charter Academy (CCA), proudly stepped up to the Capitol building Wednesday and shone brightly as the Michigan Region Nine Teacher of the Year. She was presented with a certificate by State Representative Ranjeev Puri of Canton in front of her husband Keith, 6-year-old daughter Isabella, 5-year-old son Griffen, and the entire kindergarten class of CCA. Her achievement was a testament to the hard work and dedication she displayed toward her students, deans, and colleagues, which made her recognition all the more meaningful.

Robert thanked her mentors, especially Principal Jen Conley, Dean Andreell Harris, and the kindergarten team of Liza, Angela, Jaelyn, Sadaf, Rachel, Sangeeta, Pam, and Patty. She was humbled and honored to receive the award, and expressed her sincerest gratitude for the village that had helped raise her as a teacher over the past 13 years.

Everyone was overjoyed that Robert had been selected to represent Region 9, and the CCA community was proud of her for her well-deserved accomplishment.

Vanessa brings a passion to her work that can’t be taught, and her commitment to NHA is evident in her children attending the school. She stands up for what NHA believes in and her selection to Region 9 proves that she has a true dedication to education and her students.

When the news of NHA receiving the award for outperforming the district for 13 years was announced, Vanessa was overcome with joy and pride. She was proud to be a part of something that has accomplished such great things and it was a humbling experience to receive recognition for her hard work.

As she watched her kindergarteners take to the steps to sing under the direction of K-8 Music Teacher Shari Hazell, and as her son snuggled up close to her, Vanessa couldn’t help but beam with pride. She clapped and shouted encouragement as they sang, in awe of their talent and dedication. It was clear that Vanessa was a tremendous pillar for Canton Charter and an advocate for charter schools and the community as a whole.

Mrs. Robert and Canton Charter Academy should be proud of their hard work and dedication to excellence!
