URGENT NOTICE: VOLUNTARY WATER USAGE RESTRICTIONS FOR CANTON RESIDENTS

To address low water pressure concerns and mitigate potential water rate increases, Canton strongly encourages both residents and businesses to voluntarily adopt odd/even day water usage for outdoor activities during the summer.

For residents and businesses with addresses ending in odd numbers (e.g., 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9), please limit outdoor watering to odd-numbered dates. Similarly, those with even-numbered addresses (e.g., 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) should only engage in activities like lawn watering, pool filling, and car washing on even-numbered dates.

Moreover, we kindly request that all residents and business owners adjust their automatic irrigation systems to operate between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. By adhering to this timeframe, we can ensure a balanced distribution of water with minimal instances of low pressure during peak demand hours.

Residents residing in subdivisions with communal areas are also urged to restrict watering these areas to every other day. Please note that public spaces such as parks and golf courses may utilize irrigation water from separate sources, independent of the public water system.

Following these voluntary restrictions plays a crucial role in stabilizing future water rates. As a wholesale customer of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), Canton’s wholesale water rates depend on three main factors: 1) the distance of our community from the water treatment plants, 2) the elevation relative to the water treatment plants, and 3) the maximum daily water demand and peak hour water demand. By adhering to the odd/even day water cycle, Canton can mitigate these high-demand factors, resulting in more consistent long-term water rates for our valued customers.

Canton sincerely appreciates the cooperation of all residents and businesses in adhering to these voluntary restrictions. Your support significantly contributes to maintaining the reliability of our public water system.
