Canton Township is taking charge of a bright future, announcing the completion of the 1.45-mill road improvement project and setting the groundwork for new projects locally funded by millages lined up to be delivered in 2024 and 2025. The upcoming season will see road reconstructions and resurfacing projects enacted on Lotz Road, Lilley Road, Sheldon Road, and Hannan Road, as well as curb and lane improvements throughout the township.
Canton Township is proud to announce the upcoming season of road construction projects, beginning with Lotz Road in mid-April and extending through late September. These projects will include base repairs and resurfacing of Lotz Road from Michigan Avenue to Palmer Road, Lilley Road between Michigan Avenue and Palmer Road, and Sheldon Road from Warren Road to Sheldon Center, including an asphalt mill. The township officials guarantee that each project will be completed before the next begins, paving the way for a bright future for Canton Township.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners is proud to announce the completion of the 1.45-mill Canton Road Improvement Project approved by voters in 2018, which funded three projects totaling just over $3 million. Furthermore, the county will manage the reconstruction of Hannan Road from Van Born Road to Michigan Avenue and send out crews for crack sealing at various locations throughout the township this summer.
Beck Road Reconstruction
Subheading: Geddes Road Reconstruction
Canton Township is leading the way in road improvement projects with plans for millage-funded projects slated for 2024. These projects will include the reconstruction of Beck Road, from Cherry Hill Road to Michigan Avenue, with the addition of right turn lanes a the Beck and Cherry Hill roads intersection. Additionally, Geddes Road from Denton Road to Canton Center Road will be worked on as part of these projects. Furthermore, Canton Township has also identified intersections that require engineering improvements and plans to incorporate one of these projects in either 2024 or 2025, according to Jade Smith, Canton Township municipal services director.
Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak has jokingly challenged Northville to a competition, expressing her hope that the Sheldon and Palmer roads roundabout will be the first in Wayne County.
With the Township Board of Trustees, staff, and consultants engaged in the study of intersections over the past year, they are looking at alternatives, cost estimates, and potential right-of-way needs. Graham-Hudak has noted that roundabouts are a safer way to pass traffic back and forth and avoid head-on collisions and T-bone collisions. She is confident that their efforts will result in a finalized and approved project, with the hopes of securing a grant from SEMCOG.
Trustee Steven Schneiderman was pleased to see the Beck and Ford roads intersection on the list of those slated for improvements, noting with enthusiasm that preliminary plans also include a left-turn signal. He said he is glad his years of pleading for this project have finally come to fruition.
