Grace West Shines Bright on ‘The Voice’ Blind Audition

by | Apr 28, 2023

Grace West was filled with pride and anticipation when she stepped onto the stage for her blind audition on “The Voice”. She could only see four things: the back of the coaches chairs, which would soon determine her fate. From Canton originally and now living in Nashville, West took the NBC show by storm on Monday. Her confidence and enthusiasm radiated from the stage.

West sang “Maybe it was Memphis” by Pam Tillis, and her performance was so impressive that both Blake Shelton and Niall Horan turned their chairs, giving her the opportunity to advance into the next stage of the competition. Now in its 23rd season, “The Voice” has become a fan favorite with coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper mentoring artists through five stages of competition: blind auditions, battle rounds, knockouts, playoffs and live performances.

West, who grew up in Canton watching the show, was proud of her own performance when two of the coaches turned their chairs. She felt even more confident and ready to sing, as she faced them both.

Early Beginnings

West began singing at an early age, impressing those around her with her powerful voice. At the young age of 11, she triumphed in the community talent show. As a teenager, she sang in restaurants and bars, as part of the Plymouth High School choir, and even performed the National Anthem for the Detroit Tigers multiple times. After two years in Nashville, West has become a successful songwriter and credits her success on “The Voice” to her lifelong dedication and the support she received from her community.

Her inspiration comes from the storytelling and powerful female voices in the country music genre, particularly Carrie Underwood. West is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a successful musician, performing, writing and traveling with her music.

West Prepared for Her Audition on “The Voice”

West confidently strode into her audition on “The Voice,” feeling prepared after having practiced the song “over and over and over” in her hotel room. Despite being one of the greatest stages she had ever performed on, West was not nervous. After the audition, judge Horan praised West for her “impeccable” voice with its “sweet tones,” and was certain that America would fall in love with her.

Shelton, too, took notice of West’s talent, noting that he could hear traces of the country legend Pam Tillis in her voice. With the utmost pride and admiration, Shelton announced that West would be his last pick ever; an honor she gladly accepted, closing the door on an unforgettable chapter of her life.

West excitedly awaits her turn to compete in the “battle rounds” on Monday, where she will be paired with another contestant to sing a duet. She is ready to put forth her best effort, confident that she can win over the coaches with her strong and unique voice.

Grace West has already shown that she has the grit to take her talent far in the world of music. Her electrifying performance of “Maybe it was Memphis” impressed both Blake Shelton and Niall Horan enough that they turned their chairs, proving the magnitude of her potential. Rocks native looks ready to continue lighting up the stage with her stellar singing presence and perform her way towards her dreams on The Voice Television franchise.
