Entries Now Being Accepted for Canton’s 29th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition

The 29th Annual Canton Fine Arts Exhibition is calling for entries, and the Gallery at Cherry Hill is ready to showcase the talent of Michigan artists. Running from September 26 to October 28, 2023, this prestigious exhibition invites artists to submit their works until August 4, 2023. Online submissions are encouraged.

Ben Frick, the Canton Performing Arts Coordinator, expressed his excitement about the return of the Canton Fine Arts Exhibition, highlighting the opportunity it provides for Michigan artists to showcase their works and reach a wide audience in the Canton community. The exhibition celebrates both emerging and well-established artists, showcasing a diverse range of artistic styles and interpretations.

Artists are invited to submit their works in any medium for this exceptional exhibition. Digital image files should be submitted for review on the official website of the Gallery at Cherry Hill: (www.cantonvillagetheater.org). Paintings and hangings should not exceed five feet in width or six feet in height, with a weight limit of 40 pounds. They must be appropriately framed and prepared for hanging. Sculptures should not exceed dimensions of 5′ x 5′ x 6′ and a weight limit of 200 pounds. Only original works completed within the past three years will be considered. Each submission requires a non-refundable entry fee of $20.

Cash prizes totaling $1,950 will be awarded to the winners of the competition, including a Best of Show prize of $750, Second Place prize of $500, Third Place prize of $300, two Honorable Mentions of $100 each, and four Merit Awards of $50 each. Juried results will be notified via email by August 20, 2023.

This year’s distinguished juror is Jeff Cancelosi, an artist, curator, and photographer known for his captivating photographic portraits of artists from various levels of recognition. His artworks have been featured in exhibitions across the United States, juried by esteemed curators and renowned artists. With a background in graphic design and a passion for fine art, Cancelosi has curated numerous shows in the Detroit area and served as chair of the Exhibitions Committee and board member of the Detroit Artists Market. He is also an active volunteer with ArtWorks Detroit and an adjunct faculty member at the College for Creative Studies.

A reception will be held on October 12 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. to honor the selected artists, with a special program beginning at 7:00 p.m. The exhibition can be visited at The Village Theater, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI 48187. The gallery has regular exhibition hours throughout the year, except for major holidays, including Monday-Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday-Friday from 4-8 p.m., by appointment, and during all public performances. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Gallery at Cherry Hill, situated within The Village Theater, serves as a regional center for the arts, offering live theater, captivating music, exhilarating dance performances, and engaging fine art exhibitions and events. It also serves as a home to various cultural organizations and community groups.
