Since 1985, the United States has celebrated Parks and Recreation Month each July to honor the hardworking park and recreation professionals, part-time workers, and volunteers that maintain local, state, and community parks across the country. The 2023 theme for Parks and Recreation Month, “Where Community Grows”, is especially fitting for Canton, whose parks and recreation system offer countless ways to get involved and explore all the township's wonderful spaces.

Celebrate National Park and Recreation Month at Canton Township Leisure Services Parks!
The Canton Township Leisure Services Parks webpage is the definitive source of information when it comes to parks located within the area. Not only does the website provide details about renting pavilions, dog parks, and walking and biking routes, but also offers an up-to-date list of events happening in and around Canton. This summer is no exception, as there are plenty of great activities for people to participate in during National Park and Recreation Month. One noteworthy event is the Canton Summer Concert Series which features two series: Tuesdays are Terrific with family music and entertainment, and Thursday Night Concert Series with Motown, oldies, and other pop and rock classics. All concerts are free and held at Heritage Park, with food vendors on site from 6:30 PM.

Experience the wonder of Canton this summer! On Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM, locals can visit Preservation Park for the Farmers Market to buy fresh fruits and veggies, shop crafts, and participate in storytime with CPL librarians. During the 62 Days of the Summer program at the library, visitors can take part in a variety of activities, reading events, and Wings of Wonder Storytime in the Butterfly Garden. Afterward, explore Heritage Park’s flowers, trees, ponds, and ducks. To further adventure beyond Canton, Michigan Activity Passes are available to access state parks, recreation areas, and Metroparks at free or reduced prices. There’s so much to explore and enjoy!
