Canton Turkey Trot 2024: Run Before You Feast on Thanksgiving

by | Nov 11, 2024

Looking for a way to burn off those extra calories before your Thanksgiving feast? Look no further than the 22nd Annual Canton Turkey Trot! This beloved event, featured in our Thanksgiving Guide 2024, is the perfect way to kick off your holiday with a dash of fun and a sprinkle of goodwill here in Canton, Michigan.

Where and When?

Mark your calendars for Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. The event starts bright and early at Canton’s Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI 48188. The 1-mile race starts at 9:00 AM, followed by the 5K at 9:30 AM. So, set those alarms and prepare to gobble up some miles!

A Race With a Cause

This isn’t just any old turkey trot. The Canton Turkey Trot supports the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, helping to fund education, research, and family resources. Last year’s event raised over $43,000 for this worthy cause. So, while you’re burning off calories, you’re also helping to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Choose Your Challenge

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to stretch your legs before the big feast, there’s a race for you:

  • 5K Run/Walk: For those who want to really earn their pumpkin pie.
  • 1-Mile Fun Run: Perfect for families, beginners, or anyone who prefers their runs on the shorter side.

Can’t make it in person? No worries! There’s a virtual option too. You can participate from anywhere, anytime between now and Thanksgiving Day.

A Picturesque Course

The race route is as pretty as a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Starting at Summit on the Park, you’ll wind your way through the scenic Pheasant Run Golf Club and beautiful Heritage Park. It’s flat, fast, and perfect for setting a new personal best (or just enjoying the crisp autumn air).

More Than Just a Race

The Canton Turkey Trot is a full-fledged event with all the trimmings:

  • Custom race bibs: Show off your number with pride!
  • Race shirts: Register by November 10th to guarantee yours.
  • Raffle prizes: Because who doesn’t love free stuff?
  • Opening and closing ceremonies: Feel the energy of the crowd!
  • Personal testimonies: Hear inspiring stories from the Epilepsy Foundation.

  2. By Phone: Call 734/483-5600 to register.

A Community Coming Together

The Canton Turkey Trot isn’t just a race; it’s a community celebration. It’s a chance to see your neighbors in their festive running gear, cheer on local athletes, and start your Thanksgiving with a healthy dose of goodwill (and endorphins).

Local businesses get in on the action, too, with sponsorship opportunities available for those wanting to support this great cause. It’s a true team effort, bringing together runners, walkers, volunteers, and sponsors in the spirit of giving.

Why Trot With Us?

  1. Guilt-free gravy: Earn those extra helpings of mashed potatoes!
  2. Family bonding: Create a new Thanksgiving tradition with your loved ones.
  3. Community spirit: Feel the warmth of your neighbors (even if it’s cold outside).
  4. Do good, feel good: Support a worthy cause while having fun.
  5. Bragging rights: “I ran a 5K before breakfast” is a pretty cool thing to say at the dinner table.

So, this Thanksgiving, why not start a new tradition? Trade your oven mitts for running shoes (at least for a few hours) and join the flock at the Canton Turkey Trot. It’s a chance to give thanks, give back, and maybe even give yourself a new personal record.

Remember, registration is open until race day, but sign up early to guarantee your shirt and avoid any last-minute stuffing around. Whether you’re aiming to win the wishbone or just waddle across the finish line, the Canton Turkey Trot welcomes all. See you there, and may the best bird win!
